Breaking Barriers in Travel & Accessibility | Bold Blind Beauty On A.I.R. Podcast

Anne, an Asian woman, with long, wavy brown hair and light skin is standing in a bright, white room adorned with floating disco balls of various sizes. She is wearing a vibrant pink, off-the-shoulder dress with a draped, tied waist. She holds a white cane in her right hand.

Travel isn’t just about seeing the world—it’s about experiencing it in all its forms. As a blind traveler, I’ve learned that adventure, independence, and discovery aren’t limited by sight but by the barriers society places in front of us. That’s why I was thrilled to join Bold Blind Beauty On A.I.R. for a powerful conversation about navigating the world as a visually impaired traveler and the importance of representation.

In this episode, we dive into:

  • Breaking down travel barriers for blind and visually impaired individuals
  • The power of authentic representation in the travel industry
  • Practical tips for inclusive travel—whether you’re a disabled traveler or an ally

One of my key takeaways? Blind travelers are not just observers—we are active participants. Our experiences are just as rich, meaningful, and valuable, yet so often overlooked in mainstream travel narratives. It’s time for a shift—one where accessibility is a given, not an afterthought, and where disabled travelers are included, not just accommodated.

Why Representation Matters

When disabled travelers aren’t featured in travel marketing, tourism campaigns, or mainstream storytelling, it reinforces the idea that travel isn’t for us. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Travel is sensory, immersive, and deeply personal—it’s about the feel of a city’s energy, the sound of a bustling market, the taste of a dish you’ve never tried before. It’s time to move beyond “overcoming” narratives and start showing how blind travelers truly experience the world.

A huge thank you to Bold Blind Beauty for leading the way in Access, Inclusion, and Representation (A.I.R.)™ and for giving me the space to share my story. Let’s continue pushing for inclusive, barrier-free travel for all!
